Health and Physical Education Supplies:
Students are required to wear the approved school uniform which consists of a t-shirt that is school appropriate and athletic shorts, yoga style pants, or sweatpants.  For cold weather, students may wear sweatshirts!! If a sweatshirt has a hood or zipper, the student may be asked to remove it during game time due to safety reasons. This will be done at the teacher’s discretion. Sneakers MUST be worn at ALL times; no exceptions.

Students will also be required to have a three-ring binder or folder, paper, and a writing utensil for every health class. It is the students responsibly to be prepared at all times.

Rules and Procedures:
  1. No jewelry of any kind will be worn during PE class.  All piercing(s) are to be removed regardless of when the area was pierced (ex. newly pierced ears).  Students are responsible for their own possessions and have access to lockers with locks to secure their valuables.  SCVTS is NOT responsible for any lost or stolen property. All important items MUST be locked up at all times.
2.       Students will enter the gym and stand/sit in assigned squad line in order for the teacher to take attendance.
3.       There will be absolutely no food, drinks, or gum allowed in the gym; all listed will result in loss of credit.
4.       Each day a warm up will be conducted followed by skill instruction based on the topic of the day.
5.       When the whistle is blown that is the signal that activity should stop and that all eyes and ears should be focused on the teacher.
6.       When it is time to clean up, students will be responsible for cleaning up all equipment used during class before entering the locker room. No one will be permitted back into the locker room unsupervised after changing time. Students will be required to use the bathrooms outside of the gym after activity has begun.
7.       All unprepared students will sit out and receive a zero for the day.  Only one unprepared can be made up by doing an assignment in its place; this assignment must be completed in class and is worth a maximum of 12 out of 20 points.  Any unprepared after this will result in an automatic zero.  Any uniforms that are not approved will result in a point reduction at the teacher’s discretion. After three point reductions, students will not be permitted to participate until uniform requirements are met. Students must have a doctor’s note in order to be excused from participation. Extended medical excuses will result in assigned work so that the student does not lose points for their participation grade.
8.       Always be respectful of yourself, others, and the school at all times.
9.       Please do not do anything to take away from the teacher’s ability to teach or other students’ ability to learn.
10.   No cell phones are permitted during class. They must be locked up at all times. If you are caught using a cell phone in class, you will be given 1 warning. After that, the phone will be confiscated and turned into the principal and disciplinary action will be taken.
11.   Absolutely, no hats when entering, leaving, or participating in health or PE class. Hats will only be allowed when sports are played outside.
12.   Lastly, HAVE FUN!!!

Grading System: Physical Education
The total of all four categories will determine the student’s grade for Physical Education.
  • 50% of their grade will be tests:  Tests will be given about once every two weeks and will be content knowledge or skill improvement/assessment based.
  • 20% of their grade will be quizzes/projects: quizzes are given about once or twice a week.  Students will be given random uniform quizzes; if a student is present for class but unprepared on the day of a uniform quiz, it will result in a zero for a quiz grade; no make-ups will be given. However, if a student is absent when a uniform quiz is given, they will have an opportunity to make it up their first day back.

  • 20% of their grade will be based on a weekly participation grade:  Students will be graded on participation, sportsmanship, behavior, and safety (please see grading rubric below). Each day will be worth 20 points for a possible total of 100 points for the week. Out of the 20 points available for each day, 5 will be given for having the correct uniform and 15 will be given for participation.  This will be given each week and entered on the last day of the week. In the event of a short week or an absence, points earned will be averaged based how many days they are present in class.

  • 10% will be based on homework/class work:  Homework will be given approximately 1-2 times per week during PE class. All homework is graded as follows: turned in on due date – up to 100% credit; turned in a day late – maximum of 80% credit; any day after that – 0% credit. This does not apply to excused absences. PE warm-ups will also count as a class work grade. Warm-ups will be worth a total of 25 points each day for a possible total of 100 points for the week. Jogging/walking will be worth 10 points, 5 points for stretching, and 10 points for staying in task.

Grading System: Health
